Outreach Activities
At Clemson University and in Japan I found multiple opportunities outside of my required academic coursework to improve both my capabilities in business and Japanese. By engaging with activities outside of my coursework I was able to learn how to apply what I have learned not just in a classroom, but also in the community.
Japanese Cafe からふる
While working in Hiroshima for two months, I attended a Japanese conversation cafe every week until I needed to return to Yokohama for the spring semester. There I was able to practice my Japanese conversation skills with Japanese people from a variety of backgrounds. Topics ranged from things like current events and daily life to deeper things like cultural differences and personal struggles. I also assisted in recruiting new members who wanted to practice their Japanese.
Yucca Association / ユッカの会
From the beginning of May until the end of July when I left Japan, I studied Japanese conversation 1 on 1 with a Japanese tutor hired by the Yucca Association. It started out primarily as textbook-based study at the library, but expanded into spending time with my tutor's family and going on outings with them. From this, I was able to practice my language skills in real-life contexts while learning more about daily life in Japan and how it differed from my own life in the United States.
Clemson International Business Conference 2025
I helped organize the 2025's Clemson International Business Conference. Before the event on March 5th, I worked with other students and professors to pick a theme for the conference, create questions for guest speakers and look for companies to attend the conference. On the day of the conference, I worked as a receptionist, checking in students and companies while also addressing any questions they had. I also worked as a moderator for the roundtable discussions, facilitating when students should move to another companies table, so that everyone could talk to all the companies they were interested in.
